Aurora Boreal em Tromsø. Northern Lights in Tromsø

The Northern Lights are the result of collisions between gaseous particles in the Earth's atmosphere with charged particles released from the sun's atmosphere. Variations in colour are due to the type of gas particles that are colliding.

Norse mythology connected the aurora borealis with war. It was believed that the lights appeared when sunlight reflected on the shiny shields of the Valkyries who were racing across the sky on the way to their resting place, Valhalla. And the Sami believed that the lights were souls of the departed.
Mythology or Science do not matter when you have the chance to see the lights. No explanations are needed when you have the chance of seeing them.

In our first night, just faint lights were visible .

But in the second night, it appeared in a spectacular way.

Tromsø , Norway, above the Article Circle , was the city Nosso Olhar chose to spend 6 days. A small city with appealing activities; chasing the Northern Lights being the best os all.  It has a history dating back 11.000 years, although few information we have from the peoples of that  time, except some rock pictures. The Sami culture is present for more than 3000 years and the Scandinavian language and culture are in the area from 200 A.D on.
It became more worldwide famous as the starting point of hunting, research and touristic to the Arctic. A famous figure is Roald Amudsen.
A small, lively city with University, Science Research Centers, Museums, Aquarium, Art Galleries, Shopping Centers , old and new together in a variety of choices.

The Dark Hedges - Irlanda do Norte/ Northern Ireland

One of the most photographed natural places in Northern Ireland is the tunnel of ancient beech trees  along the Bregagh Road , The Dark Hedge in Ballymoney. The tunnel of trees was planted in the estate of the Stuart Family in the beginning of the 17 century. Its eerie combination of lights gave life to many stories, including Ghost story of the Grey Lady.
The iconic trees have been used as a filming location in HBO's epic series Game of Thrones, representing the King's Road.

Our friends Limério and Mário are real globetrotters. Here are some of their pictures of Valencia Cathedral where the Holy Grail is supposed to be.
