Last, but not the least, Panama Canal - an impressive work of engineering from the end of the XIX century to the beginning of the XX Ferdinand de Lesseps (who also built Suez Canal) began the canal but it was finished by the  Americans. Panama Canal is a 48-mile (77.1 km)  ship canal that connects the Atlantic Ocean  to the Pacific Ocean. The canal cuts  is a key conduit for international maritime trade.
